Recorded TALKS:
Choice, happiness and spaghetti sauce” by Malcolm Gladwell,
The paradox of choice” by Barry Schwartz,
The riddle of experience vs. memory” by Daniel Kahneman.

ENTRY: 1 eur donation.

We are going to watch several TED talks, where scientists and book writers discuss, what is happiness and how to be happy in the modern society.

With the 1st talk “Choice, happiness and spaghetti sauce” Malcolm Gladwell gets inside the food industry’s pursuit of the perfect spaghetti sauce — and makes a larger argument about the nature of choice and happiness. He is the author of several famous popular science books, e.g. “Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking”.

In the 2nd talk “The paradox of choice” psychologist Barry Schwartz takes aim at a central tenet of western societies: freedom of choice. In Schwartz’s estimation, choice has made us not freer but more paralyzed, not happier but more dissatisfied.

If we have enough time and enthusiasm, we’ll watch the 3rd talk “The riddle of experience vs. memory”. Using examples from vacations to colonoscopies, Nobel laureate and founder of behavioral economics Daniel Kahneman reveals how our “experiencing selves” and our “remembering selves” perceive happiness differently. This new insight has profound implications for economics, public policy — and our own self-awareness.

FILM: Paradise or Oblivion (2012) by Jacque Fresco.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip_ElRKNTUQ

ENTRY: 1 eur donation.

This documentary details the root causes of the systemic value disorders and detrimental symptoms caused by our current established system. It advocates a new socio-economic system, which is updated to present-day knowledge, featuring the life-long work of Social Engineer, Futurist, Inventor and Industrial Designer Jacque Fresco, which he calls a Resource-Based Economy.

The film details the need to outgrow the dated and inefficient methods of politics, law, business, or any other “establishment” notions of human affairs, and use the methods of science, combined with high technology, to provide for the needs of all the world’s people. It is not based on the opinions of the political and financial elite or on illusionary so-called democracies, but on maintaining a dynamic equilibrium with the planet that could ultimately provide abundance for all people.

Paradise or Oblivion, by The Venus Project, introduces the viewer to a more appropriate value system that would be required to enable this caring and holistic approach to benefit human civilization. This alternative surpasses the need for a monetary-based, controlled, and scarcity-oriented environment, which we find ourselves in today.
