MUSIC by: Mystic Crock (ambient) & Andreas Miranda (sitar)

Previous project “Ambient Meets Didgeridoo”:

ENTRY fee: 6 eur.

Celebrating NOMAD’s transformation we invited two amazing musicians Andreas Miranda and Mystic Crock to connect their musical passions and create new worlds of sound. Sophisticated ambient’s grooves will blend with sitar’s oriental landscapes.

Andreas Miranda is a Belgian sitar player who studied traditional Hindustani Music under the guidance of Darshan Kumari. He has performed in various venues and festivals in Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Holland and Germany. As a big fan of ambient electronic music, Andreas likes to create a natural synergy between the two musical spheres to generate a unique and electro instrumental flow in his live sets.

Mystic Crock started off into his ambient cosmos and began producing his own tracks in 2013, after playing as a DJ for many years. “Nomad” was his debut album as a solo artist. His third album “Reef” was mastered by Aes Dana (Ultimae Rec). Recently Mystic Crock released a new album “ 6 AM”, where he collected progressive remixes of his best songs.

DJ mix by: SERAPHIM (Brasil)

ENTRY fee: 3 eur.

Conceived on the misty waters of the Amazon river, and born at a VIP room of an abandoned dusty disco, Seraphim had since an early age an inclination to the life changing aspects that music and organized sound can provoke on a human soul. Xamanism, musique concrète, conceptual art, extremism, aroma therapy, tantrism, culinary, hedonism … are all elements that contribute and influence his sound.

The DJ set will take us on a journey around sonic universes, traveling through many styles and musical influences. From exotica to experimental jazz, from cheesy eighties disco to unexpected mash ups, from jumpy Klezmer to Burlesquesque old-timers… Each upcoming track is a surprise, and will expand the boundaries of the listener ears, bringing sometimes joy and luxury, sometimes drama and fear.

NOMAD is one year old now

Exactly one year ago Nomad opened it’s door for the first time. It is such a short time, yet it seems that Nomad has been existing for ages. So many first times, crowded gatherings, smiling faces, new friends, interesting discussions, mind expanding ideas, life changing activities took place here. Since it’s inception Nomad hosted 6 exhibitions, 13 talks, 13 meditation sessions, 14 acoustic live concerts, 27 documentary films and even 41 ambient gigs. And there are more events coming, something we haven’t done yet and hopefully you haven’t experienced before!

To memorize this milestone we are releasing a music compilation “NOMAD Ambient vol.1”. It presents songs of the artists who had played at Nomad during it’s first year of existence. You can buy the mp3s on Bandcamp or a hard copy (CD+mp3) at the chai bar!

“NOMAD Ambient vol.1” tracklist:

1. CHRIS ZIPPEL – Shikasta
2. MYSTIC CROCK – Deep Atmospheres
3. GRAINS OF SOUND – Ultraviolet
4. HARMONIC FREQUENCY – Imperfection In Perspective
6. SANGEET – Manjeera
7. THE BHAKTAS – Guru Puja (Feat. Jai Uttal)
8. SHIDO – Kathodos (Nomad Edit)
9. B.ASHRA – Magical Meditation

Many thanks to the artists for magnificent gigs, which made Nomad a precious place for ambient fans!

Summer season: late opening hours and long vacations

Nomad became vampires’ beloved place – people gather after the dawn, when the dark comes. And on Tuesdays they seem to prefer other places. We don’t mind, so we adjusted the summer opening hours accordingly. From June 1st Nomad is:

Monday-Tuesday: closed
Wednesday-Thursday: open at 21:00-01:00
Friday-Saturday: open at 21:00-02:00
Sunday: closed

Another good news for us: in July-August we are going on vacation! Time to visit parents and check our festivals. The last ambient event by Chillin Berlin will close the season on June 28th and we’ll be back on September 1st.

New opening hours!

Nomad’s labor union protested against the daily working hours with no breaks and demanded some days of rest. We don’t want any demonstrations and strikes ;) so we are announcing the new opening hours:

Monday: closed,
Tuesday – Saturday:  19:00 – 01:00,
Sunday: closed.

Hope it won’t cause any inconvenience for you!

The new beginning

The first view of premises definitely wasn’t a love from the first sight. It was messy, dusty, dirty and sticky at some points.  Not talking about sad and grey atmosphere in it.

the first impression wasn’t very exciting, but we knew that we can bring some magic into this place

And still, we couldn’t get rid of the thought “now or never”. So, we applied for the rent of the place. After one seem to be never ending month, a positive answer came in the envelope.

When the joy of a first achievement rushed down we started renovating the premises. More or less everything had to be changed. Color of the walls, the bar table, the lighting…

Hundreds of hours were spent cleaning, fixing, painting, cutting, striking. Even more time was spent taking care of bureaucracy matters. Writing and answering letters and going to all kinds of Amt.

The image was getting better and better every day. Finally we started to actually see premises as our chai bar.

The year 2013 has ended and we still have to take care of so many little things before opening. Be patient, soon we’ll invite you guys to Nomad, the chai bar in Berlin!

Secret disclosed

Silence is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it means that big changes are coming in a way. The saying “calm before the storm” totally fits our situation. A storm is just ahead of us.

The wind has changed at the end of the summer, something very important happened, which we’ve been keeping as a sort of secret from you. Well, ok, formally it’s not a secret if it’s titled in our blog and Facebook pages. It says “Nomad: Chai Bar Berlin”. Our name is Nomad, our base is Berlin, and we have some chai :) Still, one very important element is missing in this picture. A bar! We had our Tipi in the parties and festivals, but we were always longing for a permanent location for Nomad.

In August we finally found it! We’ve been working there for the last 4 months and step by step building the place, which will gather the fans of psybient music and new age art.

For Mayans, the end of the world and a new beginning was 2012. For us it’s 2014. Start of a new wave in our ocean. Happy New Year!!!
